Compare Duffle Bags

Should you buy a carry on sized duffle, or a personal item sized duffle?

If you prefer to travel with a carry on backpack and use a duffle bag for luggage overflow, opt for a personal item sized duffle bag like the Outbreaker Duffle. Made from waterproof sailcloth to protect your stuff from spilled drinks and unexpected rainstorms, the Outbreaker Duffle is designed to industry specifications for personal items. It’ll fit under the seat of an airplane and has enough packing space for souvenirs, in-flight essentials, or anything else that didn’t fit in your luggage.

If you prefer to carry a daypack as your personal item, choose a carry on sized duffle to stow in the overhead compartment during your flight.

The Best Carry On Sized Duffle Bags

We have two carry on sized duffle bags for air travel: the Setout Duffle Bag and the Homebase Duffle Case

Designed to maximize your packing space without adding weight, the Homebase Duffle Case is an ultralight, maximum-sized carry on. It features minimal organization to keep weight low and a generous main compartment in which to pack.

The Setout Duffle Bag is a highly organized, mid-sized carry on for short trips. It features a dedicated shoe pocked that lies flat when not in use, an electronics compartment that fits a 13" laptop, and an organization compartment for small items like keys and pens.

Setout uses a 900D polyester for the outside fabric. It feels soft in the hand and looks sleek and sophisticated up close. It doesn’t scream “tourist" and blends into the city. It has enough water-resistance for most situations, but it won’t be stormproof like the Homebase Duffle Case, which uses LS21 waterproof sailcloth

In addition to being a waterproof material, LS21 is extremely abrasion resistant and has a great mix of weight and “stiffness" for easy packing.

Both duffle bags feature YKK zippers and Duraflex buckles throughout – widely considered the best components on the market.

Electronics Compartment

Setout's laptop compartment holds your 13" laptop & 9.7" tablet as well as your chargers and any other flat items you want to stay safe. It opens from the top and is easy to access while en route.

The Homebase Duffle Case does not have a laptop sleeve, so you'll have to carry a second bag if you want to bring a laptop.

Accessing the Main Compartment

Open the Homebase Duffle Case like a trunk and pack it from the top. It has plenty of packing space for extended travel.

The Setout Duffle Bag packs from the top, like a typical duffle bag. At 35L, it has enough packing space for 3-5 days of travel.
