How to Pack the Setout Backpack
If you pack everything on this list, you’ll have a little extra room in the Setout Backpack for souvenirs, extra outfits, or accessories.
Pack clothes in the main compartment. We recommend rolling, not folding, your clothes to minimize wrinkles.
- 4 short sleeve tops
- 2 long sleeve
- 2 bottoms: pants, skirts, etc
- 1 pair of gym shorts or lounge pants
- 6-7 pairs of underwear
- 6-7 pairs of socks
- 1 jacket
- 1 pair of lightweight, packable shoes (we love Allbirds)
- 1 swimsuit
Adapt the clothes you pack based on weather and your personal style.
Weather-specific packing tips:
Pack the following in the electronics compartment, flush against your back:
- Laptop (slim 17" laptops, like a Macbook, will fit)
- Tablet (up to 9.7”)
Pack these inside of a mesh pocket, or in a packing cube:
- Laptop Charger
- Tablet Charger
- Smartphone Charger
- Travel Adapter
Pack these in the front compartment for easy access:
Don’t forget your smartphone. Zip it inside the hip belt pocket when you’re going through security.
Pare your toiletries down to the essentials to fit everything in your one quart bag. For carry ons, your liquids and gels must be in 3.4 ounce (or less) bottles. Those bottles must fit into a one quart plastic bag. Each passenger may only carry one such bag.
Pack your liquids bag in one of the mesh pockets for easy access when you’re going through security.
- 1 scarf
- 1 pair of gloves
- 1 belt
Use our packing list as a framework and add to it as needed.
Your perfect carry on packing list will be different from anyone else’s. The only way to truly nail a carry on only travel style is to test it out and take notes on what worked, and what didn’t.
Was ditching the extra sweater a terrible idea? Do you think you could probably bring one less pair of shoes? You’ll never know until you’ve tested it out, taken notes, and then put those notes to the test the next time you travel. That’s the fun part.
