Customer Reviews

Customers praised this 25L backpack as an "excellent everyday and travel backpack" perfect for minimal travel and as a personal item. Most loved the comfort, organization, and spacious capacity that "fits under the seat." However, some noted quality concerns including thin handles that "dig into your hands," tight luggage straps, and inconsistent stitching. Several mentioned the price feels high for the quality received.

The Tortuga Daily Pro looks like an excellent everyday and travel backpack

The Tortuga Daily Pro looks like an excellent everyday and travel backpack. Its 25L capacity seems very well designed, and visually it appears to carry more than you would expect from that size. I especially like the focus on comfort and organization, which makes it look suitable both for daily use and as a compact travel bag. I’m looking forward to trying it in real-world travel and seeing how it performs when fully packed.

I am 5’2, 115 lbs. I bought this after using the setout backpack at $199 since 2019 in need of something slightly smaller. The daily carry pro is $51 more, but the quality is drastically declined. The stitching work is wonky in the front pockets. The zippers are extremely cheap, and no lock hooks, compared to the Setout. The top handle is laughable, it’s what you’d find on a normal school backpack and poorly placed for an unbalanced carry. The device sleeves drop very close to the bottom that if you have your laptop in there and you set down on an angle, there’s a chance of it smashing into the ground. I’m not sure that this material will hold up either, it feels like it will eventually flake after a bit of use and time in the closet.
The only redeeming quality is they actually did a better job with the water bottle holder. That’s it.

I don’t think this company is making lasting, quality products anymore :(

Hi Diana, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I'm sorry the bag isn't a good fit for you. As a longtime Setout user, the bar is high, and I want to address your specific concerns directly:

- Zippers: These are the same YKK zippers we've always used but with a water-resistant coating on this bag. The locking zippers are on the main and laptop compartments.
- Fabric: The fabric, ECOPAK EPX200, is recycled, waterproof, and stronger than what we used on the older Setout. We've been selling it for several years across multiple bags with zero flaking issues.
- Laptop sleeve: You're right that it sits closer to the bottom than on our larger bags. It's a padded, suspended sleeve with about an inch of clearance, which is pretty typical in bags. That's the same construction as our other models, just with a smaller buffer because it's a smaller bag.
- Top handle: It's intentionally slim to keep the bag light. We may revisit it in a future update.

You can still return the bag through our returns portal. We'd much rather you have a bag that works for you, even if that means returning this one.

Really great for a personal item, but I miss the outside pocket on the bottom front. It was a great place for my glasses case. I’d say some improvements and something’s better about my older one. I bought a second, so my husband would have one too and he took the old one, which was always mine, so I have to get used to the new one.

My New Favorite Travel Bag (With One Fixable Flaw)

I really love this bag. The front pocket is super convenient, especially with the side access when it's sitting on top of my carry-on. Having two bottle holders is a huge plus.
I wasn't sure about the main compartment at first, but the wide open space actually works really well.
My only real complaint is the placement of the top handle. It's on the laptop section toward the back instead of centered on top, so the bag feels unbalanced when you grab it. For the price, the handle could also be sturdier. The side handle is helpful for a briefcase-style grab, but it could use more structure too.
Overall though, it's a great bag and I'd still recommend it. 🙌

Tortuga Continues to Innovate

From someone who has has purchased every single of Tortuga's products, I have to say, they continue to knock it out the park. This Daily Carry Pro (DCP) is the best in it's class. Currently, I don't know of any personal item backpacks for travel that are better than this bag. I'm partial, because I'm a huge Tortuga Stan and I loved what they did with the Outbreaker series, so I was in HIGH anticipation for this bag. I currently did two pack outs - one with my BELOVED Outbreaker Laptop Backpack and this bag, and I was pleasantly surprised of the outcome. Although I wish the admin compartment had that soft felt pocket behind the label like it did in the 30L and 40L Pro, I do welcome the zipper compartments. I appreciate the integrity of the bag striving to mirror it's larger counterparts, however, still providing a different upgraded touch to some of the bag's approach.

I think the entire line up of what Tortuga has brought to the market has been consistent in quality, attention to detail, and making necessary changes with the times and consumer's responses. I'm very happy with my bag, and I recommend this bag to any traveler who wants a personal item bag for budget airlines or for those weekend trips that don't require anything larger. This isn't something I personally would use as an EDC because I like bags to be closer to 20L, but I don't see this bag not being able to answer the call, if need be. Fantastic bag from Tortuga, as always. Please keep the innovation coming! :D

Perfect short trip bag

I have been loving this bag. Its big enough to use for travel and small enough to not feel too bulky for daily use. As a travel photographer it fits my camera cube and one of the Tortuga compression packing cube perfectly! This is now my go to bag when I need to travel for short trips.

The best everyday work bag on the market

The best every day bag! As someone who travels a lot for work, this bag really saved me. When I'm home, I cowork remotely, so the bag is perfect to carry my laptop/essentials on the daily. For quick work trips, it's the best personal item as it stores my laptop safely and still has plenty of space in the main compartment. I've found I don't really need to take anything else for weekend trips.

Your New Office + Personal Item Bag Solution

Tortuga knocked it out of the park with this one! This bag flexes very nicely from office to 'under-the-seat-in-front-of-you' personal item carry. I took this backpack with me on two trips (one international, one domestic US) using only this as my personal item One-Bag-Travel solution and the bag performed flawlessly. A great option if you're flying airlines that charge for carry-ons as this one is definitely under-seat-compliant.

Right now is my number 1

It has pretty much I want. Good organization, excellent material and the most comfortable harness system that I know. I had already experiencie with the Travel 40L so I knew it was going to be good. Perhaps one more pocket in the main compartment would be my in my wish list, and a little bit more security in the water bottles. But other than that it is now my daily driver, ahead of the City Pack Pro 2 and the Able Carry Max EDC

The Tortuga Daily Carry Pro is perfect as a travel personal item! If you over pack it will fit like a brick, so just dont do it, and if you do, understand that it will be more like a carry on.

The first backpack I reach for on any trip now...but there's room for improvement.

I searched far and wide for a backpack that could cover my needs for a weekend away, a personal item for flights, and great tech protection for a laptop and tablet. I ended up between the Daily Carry Pro and the Aer City Pack Pro 2. I chose Tortuga. The design is practical, effective, and it carries what I travel with well. It has a very spacious capacity and enough malleability to expand in depth when needed. The admin pocket going the full length of the backpack is a selling point for me, along with most of the organizational pockets being zippered. The main compartment is an ideal blank slate packing space to take whatever packing cubes, pouches, or protective cases I'm carrying on a particular trip.
Now why this is only 4 stars for me...the handles. The Daily Carry Pro has top and side handles, but they're basic webbing handles with no padding. Picking up the bag from the top handle when it's fully packed out isn't comfortable. At this price point, these handles feel like a cost-cutting measure to hit a target MSRP. I love everything else about this bag; the organization, the comfort of the harness, and the balance of structure vs malleability. It's just the handles are a missed opportunity to me.

Tortuga Daily Carry Pro Review
It’s surprisingly hard to find a backpack that actually holds two laptops without feeling like a brick, but the Tortuga Daily Carry Pro nails it. The separate tech compartment keeps both devices safe and easy to grab, without eating up all your organization space in the main section.
It pushes right up against airline "personal item" limits—giving you the maximum amount of space—but holds its shape and stays remarkably comfortable on your back, even when crammed full of heavy gear. If you travel constantly or carry a massive tech setup, this bag is a lifesaver.
That said, after using it for a while, a few annoying quirks definitely stand out:
Uncomfortable handles:
The top and side grab handles dig into your hands when the bag is heavy. Since this backpack is literally designed to haul heavy tech, flimsy handles are a frustrating oversight.
A painfully tight luggage strap:
Sliding this thing over your rolling suitcase handle is a nightmare if the backpack is fully packed. The pass-through strap is just too tight, making it a huge pain to deal with when you're rushing through an airport.

A weirdly narrow tablet sleeve:
The laptop section is great overall, but the document/tablet sleeve inside it is way too narrow. The physical room is there—the bag is wide enough—so it’s honestly surprising Tortuga didn't just widen the sleeve so you could actually fit things in it easily.
No external clip points:
There’s nowhere to easily attach a carabiner for a neck pillow, hat, or extra gear to the outside of the bag.
If Tortuga padded the handles, loosened up the luggage strap, widened that document sleeve, and threw on a couple of lash points, this would easily be a 10/10 backpack.
Even with those gripes, I still use it all the time and genuinely like it. Being able to easily carry two laptops in a comfortable, under-seat bag is absolutely worth putting up with a few design flaws.

Dear Tortuga team
I love this bag and would love to work with you to make the next version perfect.

Hi Atul, Thanks for the detailed feedback.

Just to answer and clarify a few of your points: The top and side handles are intentionally minimal on this smaller bag since you're likely only using them to pick up or maneuver the bag, not to carry it. The tablet sleeve is the same size as in our other Pro bags, and the pass thru is the same as on other bags.

We'll add your notes to the feedback for future iterations of this bag.

Amazing quality, well thought out organization (just enough), comfortable to wear, and I can fit the same amount as a 30L into it if I ever need to. It shipped and arrived quickly and customer service was top notch. Can’t recommend this product enough.

I've taken four trips with my Daily Carry Pro, two by car and two by air. I've enjoyed the overall size and carrying ability of this back pack! For the weekend driving trips I was able to pack my clothes in the DCP and not require my roller bag and for my plane trip, was able to carry items that I didn't want in my checked bag. Even with all of my packed carry-on items, I was able to stow the DCP under the seat and have room for my size 13 shoe! I like the roominess of the DCP and the clam-shell opening when packing. I only wish that there were some external hooks in order to attach things to the exterior, not a deal breaker, but would be a nice feature.

Overall a great bag that fit into the personal item slots for all major US airlines (I tried them at the airport). I traveled to Costa Rica for 9 days with just this bag and it fit everything in it.

Two things I would like to see added to this bag is a hidden pocket for cash or passport and a bigger RFID pocket for wallet/passport. Combining the two would be ideal. Love the bag...

I love it - bought it for travel but have been using it as my everyday bag by combining my briefcase and gym bag into one simple and useful carry. It' been great - can't wait to use it for traveling lol.

I love this backpack. It fits under the seat in front of me. Fabric is sturdy and looks classy. I am normally not a fan of multiple zipper sections but these are well designed and executed. I used it twice before realizing there was another zippered section which fit my laptop incredibly well. I love that on the largest section the zipper opens on 3 sides and is deep. Straps are adjustable and well padded. There is a narrow carry handle on the short side near the neck as well as on the long side to carry like a suitcase. I am 5’ and I do struggle somewhat to sling it on my back when it is fully packed but it is doable. I usually hang it by the ‘neck handle’ on my roll aboard suitcase hook and it balances well. There are deep stretch fabric water bottle pockets on each narrow side but if you utilize both you won’t be able to roll it down an airplane aisle.
I have the smaller backpack but after using this it is now my preferred size. Highly recommend.
