I am very happy with build quality from stitching to fit and finish. The structural support is so good i didn't need the optional hip belt. Carried 30 Lb for many miles in total comfort. Love how all 3 main zippers line up for use with a single cable lock. This bag should last decades.

Comfortable bag with plenty of space.

I wanted to upgrade my old Setout Divide. The old pack could be difficult to sandwich to zipper, and I wanted something easier. The new Pro packs more like a standard suitcase and has more forgiving dimensions. It also doesn’t have too many straps in the way when zipping it together. The new pocket sizes make more sense, and removal of the laptop catch is welcome.

This is my third Tortuga backpack. My favorite feature is the full-length front compartment. I also really like the stow-away straps. Those two features sealed the deal for me.

I also have the 34L SuperLite on order and am looking forward to trying it.

The 34L is amazing and holds tons of gear. But if you want true one bag travel, go with the 40L

Thank you, Tortuga, for making the Pro in 34L size. It is the perfect size for pretty much all of my travels and looks gorgeous! The pro is the ultimate in luxury 1.5 bag travel. The combination of crazy-cushy straps, load-lifters, an easily moveable sternum strap and hefty hip straps make this backpack the most comfortable bag I have ever worn. The 40L size was just way too large for me even though I was dying to try out the Tortuga Pro, so I am so so grateful for this smaller size. I am looking forward to using this bag on many upcoming travels. Just love it love it love it!

This tortuga 34l was perfect for me to take on a one week trip! Fit everything effortlessly with a couple cubes and couple pouches. Super comfy and just enough organization. Materials are top notch as well. All in all a perfect backpack for one bag travel. Best one I’ve tested so far and I’ve tried a lot!

I’ve heard and read about how comfortable Tortuga backpacks and people were not lying. This is my first Tortuga purchase and the comfiest backpack I’ve ever worn. Not just the comfort but the quality is superb. I’ve already used it on one trip and it packs much more than you think.

This Tortuga Pro 34L is my fourth Tortuga backpack. I bought this pack on August 3rd and didn’t give it much thought when they launched it because I knew I was betting on getting quality comfort. I own the Expandable Backpack, the Daily Carry Pro, and the Packable Backpack, and what keeps bringing me back every single time is the consistency of comfort. Tortuga just understands how a backpack should feel on your body.

A lot of people say Tortuga bags are heavy, but I honestly don’t mind it. When they are heavier, the comfort completely cancels it out. I’d rather carry a slightly heavier backpack that feels great on my shoulders and hips than a super-light bag that digs into me all day. Spending the extra bucks on the hip belt is absolutely worth it, it gives you maximum comfort and makes the whole load feel easier.

What I love most about the Pro 34L is that it’s the sweet spot I’ve been wishing Tortuga would make for years. It’s not as big as the 40L, which can feel oversized for everyday travel (I’m about 5’6), and it’s not as small as the 28L, which is just a bit too limiting. The 34L hits that perfect middle ground.
I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains a lot and stays pretty cold, and I travel for work to different states with totally different climates; from Alaska to Florida. That means I often need to pack extra layers, a jacket, or a rain shell, even for overnight trips. Most backpacks just don’t give me enough room without forcing me to bring a roller bag. The Pro 34L finally solves that. It’s big enough to carry what I need, but still small enough to take to an appointment after dropping my things at the hotel. Sure, sometimes I prefer something smaller, but this is “just right” in a way the 40L never quite was. I own backpacks from Aer, Cotopaxi, Matador etc. and Tortuga is by far the ones I would keep if I were to ever downsize on my collection.

The organization is also spot-on. There’s enough built-in structure that I don’t always need a tech pouch, and I can keep the main compartment free for clothes, shoes, and bulkier items without feeling like everything is fighting for space.

Honestly, I think this might be the greatest backpack Tortuga has ever made, right up there with the Expandable. If I can mention any negatives it would probably be their zipper pulls. I feel I often get confused with the zipper pulls from the main compartment and the admin panel. A way I’ve been able to distinguish them is by adding a bit of color on the zipper pulls. A certain color for the main compartment, and another for the admin; same thing I did with their Daily Carry Pro since they have a very similar layout. Cheap fix that you get from Amazon. Not the biggest deal, but I did want to mention that. I can’t wait to see what else Tortuga comes up with next.

The fabric choice is phenomenal. The comfort is unmatched and the organization is just enough to keep the things I need on the go accessible without much thought.

I just picked up the Tortuga Travel Backpack 34L, and it already feels like the perfect setup for one‑bag travel. The material has that tough, premium feel without being heavy, and the clamshell opening makes packing way easier than I expected. It fits everything I need for a week and still stays comfortably within carry‑on limits. The straps and back panel are surprisingly comfortable, and the laptop compartment feels well thought out. I’m genuinely excited to take this on my first trip—it feels like a bag I won’t have to think about, which is exactly what I wanted.

I've just received the Tortuga Pro Backpack 34L, and after spending some time comparing it with my other Tortuga bags, I wanted to share my first impressions.

For context, I also own the Daily Carry Pro 25L and the Expandable 27L. I was looking for something slightly larger than the Expandable but still smaller than a typical 40L travel backpack, while also benefiting from the upgrades in the Pro line: EPX200 fabric, dual water bottle pockets, and a dedicated admin pocket.

So far, I'm very impressed. The Pro 34L shares a layout that's very similar to the Pro 25L, which is one of my favorite aspects of that bag. The combination of a large main compartment and a well-designed front admin pocket is exactly what I look for in a travel backpack. The EPX200 fabric feels premium and durable, and the addition of two water bottle pockets is a welcome improvement in both convenience and flexibility. The grab handles also feel noticeably more robust than those on the Expandable 27L, giving the bag a more refined, durable feel.

In terms of size, the Pro 34L is a little taller than the Expandable 27L, but surprisingly it has a slimmer profile, even when the Expandable is not expanded. Interestingly, the Pro 25L actually appears to be the deepest of the three bags.

My only real complaint is the absence of a luggage pass-through. Both the Daily Carry Pro 25L and the Expandable 27L include one, and I think it would have been easy to incorporate a similar solution on the Pro 34L. In particular, the Expandable's design works especially well because the shoulder straps can be tucked away for extra security while attached to rolling luggage.

Overall, my first impression is that the Pro 34L fills a gap in Tortuga's lineup perfectly. It offers more capacity than the Expandable 27L without stepping into the bulkier 40L category, while retaining the thoughtful organization and premium materials that make the Pro series so appealing. I give it five stars, but with the luggage pass-through would be a six stars, no doubts!
