Outbreaker Backpack

Suitcases aren't made for city travel. Good luck dragging a heavy roller bag over cobblestone streets and up a few flights of stairs to your Airbnb.

Hiking backpacks aren't much better. They're too big to be carried on and too disorganized to work well as luggage.

You need a travel backpack that combines the best parts of suitcases and hiking bags without the drawbacks. You need a bag that packs like a suitcase and carries like a backpack.

Like a suitcase, a travel backpack is carry-on-sized, organized, and easy to access.

Travel Light

By traveling carry on only, you'll save money on baggage fees and never waste your time standing around at the baggage carousel hoping your bag shows up.

You'll just breeze through the airport and be on your way.

The Outbreaker comes in two sizes: 35L for maxing out international carry on limits and 45L for maxing out US carry on limits.

Stay Organized

A front-loading bag opens like a suitcase so you can organize your stuff and quickly grab whatever you need.

A travel backpack is comfortable and durable, like a hiking backpack.

Save Your Shoulders

Since you're carrying everything on your back, you need a good suspension system to manage the weight. The Outbreaker Backpack's height-adjustable shoulder straps adjust up or down for the perfect fit on your body. The hip belt will transfer 80% of your pack's weight from your shoulders to your hips to prevent neck and shoulder strain.

Built for the Road

Your bag must be built to make it around the world. The Outbreaker Backpack's VX21 sailcloth fabric was originally developed for racing boat sails. The waterproof fabric will protect your clothes and electronics and is tough enough to never rip or tear. The best-in-class YKK zippers won't break and give you additional weather protection.

You'll thank yourself for buying this bag.

Had a week long trip to Amsterdam coming up and I needed a solid and reliable carry-on that I wouldn't have to check and worry about losing. Not only was this compact AND organized for a backpack, but the design is incredibly tough and reliable. This lil beast of a bag held all my clothing and stuff for a week, and right away it felt like a bag I'd be using again and again. In fact, I'll be flying with this same bag on my trip to Japan in a few weeks and then yet AGAIN when I return to Amsterdam in January. Feels good to have a reliable bag for traveling now and I'll be surprised if this thing doesn't last me at least a good 10 years at minimum.

Just a side note - everyone talks about the hip straps being lifesavers...the bag was literally so comfy I didn't even have to use the hip straps. These guys really know how to make a supportive travel backpack.

***To the folks at Tortuga, CHEERS and KUDOS to you for making such a solid travel bag for all the adventurers out there that need/want one!***

Great Even For The Short Girls

I've had this 45L bag for a few years. I actually bought it during a one-time sale during CV19. Since then, I've taken it on multiple solo trips around America. For perspective, I'm 5'2. This bag is easily half my size. I've gotten some looks at the airport and have had a few issues throwing it in the overhead bins, but that's a me-problem. When I take it through TSA, it's 100% a little bit bigger than the bins they make you throw everything in, but it was a heck of a lot easier reaching into the tech space of this bag and grabbing my laptop than taking absolutely everything out of my Lululemon 30L (I'll never take it again, so embarrassing) to be able to pull it out/put back in.

This bag has great functionality. Each storage space is so thoughtful, imo. The 4 zipper spaces in the main compartment are nice for undergarments, socks, sleep shorts, tank tops, extra toiletries, snacks, you name it. The mesh compartments of the main space are large enough to fit extra shoes (I'm a size 4M/6F for reference), an absolute plethora of leggings, hairbrush, chargers, blah blah blah. I could go on and on. I used packing cubes for my trip to Chicago, but I actually found it more useful to just roll everything, as this bag does open like a clam-shell and you can see everything anyway.

The front of this bag is also very useful and spacious. The small compartment at the bottom secured by the sail flap is nice. Personally, I store time-of-month things in that one. In the upper space,…

Perfect Bag

I just took this bag on a week's trip to NYC and it was almost too big to fit everything! This bag is amazing for anyone who travels especially that who love organization and has to carry their tech.

Excellent travel pack

I've used this bag on one trip so far and packing for another at the moment!

Perfect for weekend travel or longer depending on how light you want to go. The laptop pouch is great for keeping the work laptop safe and it's suspended from the ground so I'm not worried about dropping the bag and damaging my tech.

Comfy to wear but after a while the shoulder straps can start digging into my pecs maybe they need to be further apart on the pack?

All in all excellent experience and excited to travel with just this one bag.

Best bag

I have had this bag for a few years and loved it. It looks great, holds everything and has plenty of pockets. I get compliments on it every time I travel with my friends and I immediately become a Tortuga salesman. I had a few years I was on ~60 flights a year and I loved this bag. This is the best bag for someone who travels on planes often and needs to move quickly. I did have a slight zipper issue once and Tortuga made the warranty super easy. Most companies don't stand by their products, but Tortuga really does. Highly recommend this bag and company.
