I spent 3 weeks traveling throughout Southeast Asia - hopping on 13 flights, 5 boats, many trains and taxis and tuk tuks - and this backpack withstood it all. It's the perfect size for a carry on so you don't need to worry about checking it. It has so many pockets that I was able to fit everything I needed from clothes to toiletries to my laptop and charger and more, and still have some room to bring back souvenirs. It's a comfortable pack, and the waist strap is helpful to relieve some of the pressure off your back during those long stints at the airport or on the train. It's not too bulky, so it's easy to travel with. The material is also tough - it got a couple of scuff marks (which is expected), but there isn't any fraying or tears to be seen. I highly recommend this to anyone doing a long trip abroad, and plan to use it as a regular travel bag in the future!

I took this back pack on a six month backpacking trip through Europe. I was amazed with how much I could fit in it and how well I could customize it to fit me comfortably. I am so glad I fought this backpack!!

I write this while I’m still on my trip. It is the first time I am taking an overseas trip with only carry-on size luggage. I originally purchased the Setout via Amazon, however it was too large as a carry-on for smaller airlines. I liked the way you could put the straps neatly away on the Setout, but I needed the size of the Outbreaker. The organization for laptops and cords is excellent and I am able to fit a good amount of clothing and one pair of shoes. I loved the ability to be hands free, however at 65 years of age with a few too many pounds, the additional weight was tough on my knees when I used the backpack to go 15 minutes away to a laundromat in Edinburgh where there are hills to climb.
I especially was thankful that it is weather resistant since the rain was intermittent and it allowed me to feel comfortable that things would be protected. I had a harder time adjusting the straps with this Outbreaker even though it is meant to be better for my size than the womens version of the Setout. I am 5’3 and I wasn’t sure it was sitting correctly on my hips even though I watched all the videos and had my daughter adjust things.
At the airport, when our flight was delayed I spent some of the time leaning against the wall to relieve the weight and other times in a chair where it sat behind me while I still wore it.
I wish it could be fit on my roller back handle and that the water bottle holder was larger. As others said, it is way to small when the bag is…

I used the (30L) pack for a 10 day trip to Peru with variable weather conditions. Think lots of thin layers. No laptop or heavy electronics. I had hoped to use just one carry on. Also had access to laundry service mid-way, so really packed for 6 days.
What I noted immediately was if you packed the main compartment, the “other side” of the pack was so compressed that it was pretty useless except for very thin items. If you reversed the packing the main compartment was compromised. So a balance was needed as was a second carryon. Not a big deal since that served as my day pack.
Admittedly, the extra layers took up space; but I have wheeled bags of similar size (30 L) that can hold more and more efficiently. I will try the T-bag for a shorter, say 5 day trip w/o a lot of layers and see if it works for that.
Pluses. Durable; comfortable to carry with ability to adjust the fit. I love pockets to organize and this has a ton; just that some were not useful with a fully loaded pack.
The straps as typical for a BP could be flighty and make stowing it difficult. I figured out a way to quickly tie down the straps, hip belt etc. using the belt clips to make it fit in the overhead easier. (See photo).
The constitution, comfort and durability make this bag a 4; otherwise, for storage and usefulness only, I would rate it a 3.

I’m a frequent traveler and needed a reliable backpack with nice look. I bought mine 6 years ago and never regret after purchase. Still looks like new and zero issues with the zippers.
Thank you Tortuga for being great company and making awesome products!
Back in 2016 you helped me with getting another one in Russia and I’ve been recommending your products since then to all my friends and family.
